Spring and summer in france, 2016: 4 months of demonstrations, economic blockades, riots, occupations, beginning shortage of fuel, direct actions, strikes etc. were not enough to crash the liberal law of the left government. We review this social movement. A movement that marked us and that brought us together in the fight. We also want to raise the question how to fight in Germany, where the political realities are different but the capitalist consequences are finally the same. What kind of solidarity is to establish? How can we fight on two sides of the border, how can the struggles break through the limits of one country?

In presence of people from france that witnessed this social movement and that are familiar with the french context.

The presentation and debate will be in english. Translation to german and french if needed.

Aktuelle Situation zum geräumten ‘jungle’ in Calais / Evictions in Calais: what happened and where can we find those responsible.

The state and their police hordes descended on Calais in heavy numbers this October to  evict the jungle which used to house thousands of people on their way to the UK. Police have cleared and demolished the jungle and are arresting any person without documents remaining in the city.

While their brutality is a day-to-day affair in Calais (and elsewhere), this October signaled a clear increase in state repression. Besides the state, there is wide-spread corporate involvement in Europe’s repressive migration policies.

Also in Calais, security companies have a flourishing industry from privatization of border control inspections to the manufacturing of tear gas & drones; from detention & detainee transport contractors to constantly increasing fences & walls along the highway.

Join this info-evening for updates on the recent situation in Calais as well as an exploration of the border regime in Calais and its collaborators.

20.00 Uhr: Doku-Film: “Hablan las FARC-EP – Es sprechen die FARC-EP” (spanisch mit deutschen Untertiteln) – Ein Film mit Exklusiv-Interviews während der Friedensverhandlungen in Havanna, Kuba. Er ist ein historisches Dokument. Die Antworten der Interviewten, die unterschiedliche Verantwortlichkeiten und Posten innehaben, aus verschiedenen Regionen stammen und unterschiedlichen Guerilla-Generationen angehören, behandeln diverse Themen und zeigen die Wichtigkeit und Wert des jetzigen Zeitpunkts.

Nach dem Film haben wir die Möglichkeit, uns mit dem Regisseur direkt auszutauschen.

Farid Esack, chairperson board BDS Südafrika, kommt nach Berlin und wir freuen uns, dass wir ihn zu einem Gespräch einladen konnten.

Aus den von ihm vorgeschlagenen Themen haben wir BDS and anti-Semitism gewählt. Vielleicht gibt es auch noch die Möglichkeit zu einem Gedankenaustausch zum Thema Israel and Apartheid South Africa – How Valid are the Comparisons?

Die Veranstaltung wird auf Englisch sein.

Spielfilm – Jordanien 2014 – Regie: Naji Abu Nowar – Arab. mit engl. UT – 100 Minuten

Ein Beduinenjunge, der seinem älteren Bruder heimlich folgt, als dieser 1916, zur Zeit des 1. Weltkrieges, mit einem britischen Offizier auf eine heikle Begleiter-Mission in die Wüste geht und in den verschlungenen Tälern des Wadi Rum in einen Hinterhalt gerät.

Der Film spielt zu einer Zeit, als die imperialen Mächte die Landkarte des Nahen Ostens von außen fixierten. Eine Landkarte, die seit 100 Jahren viele politische Spannungen und endlose kriegerische Auseinandersetzungen provoziert hat und bis zum heutigen Tag ein Stück Weltpolitik bestimmt.
