PERFORMANCE LAB an open call for participation
ARE YOU INTERESTED IN DEVELOPING YOUR OWN PERFORMANCE WORK IN A POLITICAL CONTEXT?
WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
The lab is a four month long process in trying out performance ideas. It is intended to all who want to develop their own work while testing their performing potentials. It is not a classical workshop where someone teaches you new skills but more about exploring why and which one to use. We devote a lot of time to researching personal material, clarifying motives and reasons for staging. You are invited to use your own imagination, intuition, presence, energy and deepen your knowledge, experience and skills. Everything you create and practice at the lab is your own idea. Your main goal is to find your content and your implementation strategy. There is no rule in this process other than “learning-by-doing.” No previous experience is needed, rather motivation, energy and focus. The process will be supported and facilitated by the organizer. It will be held in English but feel free to reach out even if you are not fluid in English. We will try to organize translations.
STRUCTURE
First we choose a common theme. Afterwards each creates a stage situation and presents it in front of other participants. They are completely independent and free in methods and strategy. After the performance, we all comment on what we’ve experienced. The performer only listens without explaining themselves. They can freely decide what to take into account for the next performing scene. This is how we continue for the rest of the lab. Any approach to performing and commenting should include some kind of participants’ own idea of political awareness. Each session will begin by a one hour warm-up and connecting time. There will be lunch, snacks and drinks provided. You will be invited to leave voluntary donations.
SCHEDULE
The lab will happen six times, one weekend every three weeks, Saturday and Sunday, 11am to 6pm in Newyorck im Bethanien.
The dates: MAR 14-15, APR 4-5, APR 25-26, MAY 16-17, JUN 6-7, JUN 27-28.
HOW TO JOIN?
Write us an email entitled “PERFORMANCE LAB”. In it try to present yourself and explain why would you like to join the lab and a bit about your background (biography, possible performing experience or political work, identities, native language, mother tongue, class, gender, religion etc. – whatever you feel comfortable to share). The lab is suitable for 10 to 15 participants. In case you already know that you cannot attend all 6 weekends, please indicate which ones can you commit to. In case of a lot of interest, the participants will be chosen based on their attendance availability and a bigger background diversity of the group. We would like to kindly ask you for understanding regarding this matter. Commitment and solidarity with each other are the most important values of this process. Feel free to ask questions as well. Please contact us until 7th March. You will receive an answer on 8th March.
